Owl in oil

This painting started as a jellyfish but it was so boring to paint so it ended up standing in a corner..
After a few weeks I was browsing Pinterest and found a picture of an owl that I was tempted to paint.

When the owl was finished I thought about the background and thought that an old
map would be fun, kind of like in the Indiana Jones movies where you see a cartoon map with lines that
show where his journey is headed. But when I was looking for inspiration images for it I got stuck on a
vintage compass that I thought was a bit fun so I chose that instead.

It’s not the best thing to paint the background last but this painting wasn’t that well thought out
from the start ha ha.. I think it turned out good in the end anyway. 🙂

I thought about the name for a long time and I wanted it to have some connection to the fact that an
owl has its own inner compass and always finds its way home, but also that if you are wise, as the owl
symbolizes, you will find a way to find your way home within yourself as well.

Viam Inveniens is of course Latin but roughly means Finding the way.
