When my colleague Emma is going to throw a party with the theme Charter trip, of course I ask if I can make some decorations!
She asked if I could make a palm tree, I had a long cardboard roll lying around since we bought a new carpet and it would do as a trunk.
An old broken umbrella became the shape of the tree crown. It turned out to be much more difficult than I thought to get hold of large sheets
of green paper so it had to be a variant with smaller ones and I used all the green papers I had at home, the result was not
as I had thought from the beginning, but I still think it turned out ok.
I covered the cardboard roll with strips I cut from a jute sack. I made the coconuts from balloons and papier mache, a little paint and then
I just tied and glued them to the trunk.
It became easy to just stick the umbrella into the hollow stem. A parasol foot made the palm stand.
I painted some fun signs to attach to the trunk, just acrylic paint on cardboard pieces I cutted out.. it doesn’t have to be that complicated. 😉
An easy way to make a garland is to just cut flowers and leaves from paper, sometimes I sew them together on the sewing machine but here I strung them up on a string, suitable for hanging from the ceiling, draped around something or maybe as a table decoration on a long table.
When Emma herself fixed a fun logo on the theme, I made a canvas with it, a fun little thing to welcome the guests with.
