I signed up for a webinar and got to learn the technique of using sand together with paint to get a nice texture.
It was fun to try something new. First I mixed fine-grained sand with paint and laid it on the canvas with a palette knife,
it then had to dry before I applied the color with coarse brushstrokes. To get smooth transitions, I wet a small sponge
and gently rubbed the joints. On the ridges formed by the sand, I dabbed a coppery color that lifts the whole painting.
Then, just because I thought it was fun I painted a lighthouse, I had some canvases lying around that I use to practice on,
I got a feeling and made several pieces in one go. This technique was fun, maybe there will be more of this kind in the future.. 😉
